Oscar Watch 2013: Nominations for Make-up and Hairstyling Announced

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the 85th Academy Awards nominations. Here are the nominees for the Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar:
Hitchcock: Howard Berger, Peter Montagna and Martin Samuel
Special make-up effects artist Howard Berger (FAR LEFT) won an Oscar for The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe; this is the first Oscar nomination for special make-up effects artist Peter Montagna (NEAR LEFT). Hair department head Martin Samuel has two previous Oscar nominations: for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2004) and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End (2008). The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey: Peter Swords King, Rick Findlater and Tami Lane
Make-up/hair designer Peter Swords King won an Academy Award for his work on The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2004); this is the first nomination for key make-up artist and hair supervisor Rick Findlater. Prosthetics supervisor Tami Lane won an Oscar for her work on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. See Issue 100 of Make-Up Artist for more on The Hobbit make-up.
Les Misérables: Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell
This is the third Oscar nomination for make-up/hair designer Lisa Westcott, who was nominated for Mrs. Brown (1998) and Shakespeare in Love (1999). The pre-Oscar make-up and hairstyling symposium, which is open to the public, will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Wojciech Inglot, the chemist and businessman who created the global cosmetics brand Inglot, died suddenly on Saturday, Feb. 23 in Przemyśl, Poland. He was 58 years old.
Lisa Westcott and Julie Dartnell have won the 2013 Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar for their work on Les Miserables. It was the first Oscar win for both.
Stuart Freeborn, whose pioneering work on 2001: A Space Odyssey and the early Star Wars films earned him a place in make-up history, has died at the age of 98.
