2009 IMATS London a Great Success
'Hellboy 2' panelists at 2009 IMATS London

2009 IMATS London a Great Success

Posted: Thursday 05 February, 2009

The eighth International Make-Up Artist Trade Show London, held at Alexandra Palace Jan. 24-25, 2009, rose to the challenge of a global recession. More than a thousand visitors attended the show to learn from educators, buy products and hear keynote speakers.

One highlight was the Hellboy 2: The Golden Army panel discussion featuring keynote speaker and 2009 Oscar® nominee Mike Elizalde. The panel also included actor Doug Jones (Abe Sapien), DDT’s David Martí and Montse Ribé, Iván Pohárnok from Filmfex, Creature Effects chief Cliff Wallace, Leo Burton from Solution Studios and make-up artists Simon Webber and Anthony Parker. After the discussion, the entire team moved to the Make-Up Artist magazine stand, where they chatted and signed autographs for nearly two hours. Elizalde’s fellow Hellboy 2 Oscar® nominee Thom Floutz also appeared at the show but kept a very low profile over the weekend.

Keynote speakers Mary Greenwell and Morag Ross discussed their long careers as print and film make-up artists, respectively, with show organizer Michael Key. All three keynote speakers were judges for the two student competitions, which brought in young make-up artists from across the globe.
