The fourth annual Oscar®-Nominated Makeup Artist and Hairstylist Symposium will be held 2:30 p.m. March 6 at California’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. This event celebrates the films—and the make-up artists and hairstylists who worked on them—nominated for an Achievement in Makeup Oscar® for 2009. Three Oscar®-nominated films will be chosen from among the following: District 9, Il Divo, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus, The Road, The Young Victoria and Star Trek. Nominations will be announced Feb. 2. The academy will show film clips that the make-up artists and hairstylists selected for presentation during the nomination process. Nominees will discuss the work they did on the films and take questions from the audience. A gala reception and display follows in the academy’s Grand Lobby. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for the event, which will be held at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater, 8949 Wilshire Blvd. in Beverly Hills, California. Free parking is available at 8920 and 9025 Wilshire Blvd. Starting Feb. 3, free tickets (four maximum per person) may be reserved online at www.oscars.org. Tickets will also be available the day of the show at the academy’s box office. |

Web Exclusive: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Young Hellboy - Monday August 04, 2008 |
| From a make-up perspective, the first major character to appear in Hellboy 2 is
a younger version of the hero, seen in a 1955 prologue with Professor
Broom (John Hurt). The Young Hellboy character was created by the
Barcelona-based company DDT Efectos Especiales and played in a
gender-bending twist by the company’s Montse Ribé. |
