Update: Toby Lindala has now been announced as a keynote speaker, and the text below has been adjusted to reflect this.

The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show makes its triumphant return to the Vancouver Convention Centre East July 21-22 with demos and classes from top make-up industry pros, plus great shopping in a new and larger hall.

IMATS Vancouver 2012 keynote speaker Valenté FrazierSpeakers include Emmy-winning fashion veteran Valenté Frazier, whose credits include America’s Next Top Model, Elle, Bazaar and Vogue. Frazier, the show’s beauty keynote speaker, is Tyra Banks’ personal and has made up A-list clients ranging from Rihanna to First Lady Michelle Obama. He will share his red-carpet secrets in the demo “Buildable Beauty.”

Make-up effects artist Toby Lindala (The X-Files TV series, Fantastic Four, Supernatural) will also be a keynote speaker. His latest projects include The Seventh Son and the fairy-tale-themed TV series Once Upon a Time, which he’ll discuss as part of a panel that will also feature actors and make-up artists from the show.

And as MastersFX approaches its 25th anniversary this fall, shop founder Todd Masters will participate in a panel discussion about the work he and the company have done to date, including make-up effects from Star Trek: First Contact, Tales from the Crypt, True Blood, Fringe and Falling Skies, along with more recent work in Vamps and Sinister.

IMATS Vancouver will also offer plenty of opportunities. Cosmetics vendors will be showing and selling top products and tools, from new creations to old favorites. And this year’s show has moved to Hall B, which is larger than last year’s space and is located closer to the Convention Centre’s entrance.

Make-up effects artists will show off their work from film and television shows in the Make-up Museum. And the Battle of the Brushes, the IMATS student make-up competition, will unfold over the weekend: The beauty/fantasy competition has a Wild Kingdom theme; the character/prosthetic category is themed Men in Black Aliens. Students from around the world will compete live onstage to create a winning look.

Expedited entry and preferred classroom seating will be available to Make-Up Artist Pro-Card holders.

Make-Up Artist is read in nearly 70 countries and was created in 1996 by Emmy Award-winning make-up artist Michael Key.

The Vancouver Convention Centre East is located at 1055 Canada Place, under the white sails, in downtown Vancouver, British Columbia. Show hours are 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday. Web Exclusive: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Young Hellboy
From a make-up perspective, the first major character to appear in Hellboy 2 is a younger version of the hero, seen in a 1955 prologue with Professor Broom (John Hurt). The Young Hellboy character was created by the Barcelona-based company DDT Efectos Especiales and played in a gender-bending twist by the company’s Montse Ribé.
