not-too-perfect, '80s Vogue-style

colored eye shadow to complement the embellished '80s-style clothing.

On a cold and cloudy Oxford afternoon, U.K. make-up artist Sarah Terry collaborated with photographer Rebecca Parkes, hairstylist Sean Butt and designer Bibian Blue to create this dark vision of Alice in Wonderland.
The Victorian and Edwardian eras inspired Terry to contrast creams and
gold hues with vibrant reds and smoky blacks. Appliqués, feathers, nail
art and Butts’ elaborate hair design gave the looks texture. This
particular Alice (Samantha Wilkinson) and White Rabbit (Blossom Blois)
look innocent, but there’s a hint of mischief here, too. Let’s follow
them down the path, shall we?

Buscaino says the idea was to have a mobile lab that could travel with the production as needed, which he and his team had done for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. The Star Trek lab proved to be an efficient and cost-effective idea, on a much bigger scale.

that its members voted to approve new TV and theatrical contracts by a

Creating a unique new look for the rebooted Star Trek franchise was a big priority for J.J. Abrams, the producer-turned-director of the forthcoming Star Trek film. So Abrams turned to Barney Burmanand his team at Proteus Make-up FX to craft alien creatures for the
film, which recounts the earliest adventures of the Enterprise crew. It
was a big job: The artists had to produce and execute new designs for
various aliens, and they had to do it more quickly than they originally
anticipated. With such a massive workload to deal with all at once, Burman wound up
assigning some of the featured humanoid races, notably the Romulans, toJoel Harlow and his team.

Paxson said. She tried theatrical make-ups ranging from Joe Blasco to
Dermablend, mixing them with Estēe Lauder and Shiseido, but the result
was always heavier than she wanted. “Growing up in south Florida, it
was awful. I was layering sunscreen with make-up, but it was so thick,
I’d go out in hot weather and feel like I was wearing a T-shirt on my
face,” Paxson said.

The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show has just added a fourth country to its roster: Canada. Make-Up Artist magazine publisher Michael Key and Canadian Makeup Show producer Jeff
Saunders announced a merger late in February: All Canadian Makeup Shows
will now become IMATS shows. Because the Vancouver-based CMS was scheduled so soon after the merger announcement, in April, Make-Up Artist magazine is only acting as a sponsor this year. But all subsequent CMS
shows, including this year’s Toronto-based CMS in November, will become
IMATS shows."We’re excited to produce IMATS shows in Canada; I’m looking forward to bringing the Make-Up Artist magazine and IMATS strengths to those shows," Key said. "We’ve been
exhibiting in Toronto for the past decade and I consider it a very
strong market. It's comfortable, familiar territory for us. The city is
strong and vibrant—it’s a great place for a show. We have 13 years'
experience producing the very best shows for make-up artists and we can
take this show to the next level."

do make-up. His magazine not only inspired me but so many others of my
generation to get into the film business. His presence will be greatly

Specialty Contacts: A Cautionary Tale

So, you’ve got your cat tail, ears and whiskers all ready for your
feline Halloween costume, but the face make-up is missing something. If
you’re thinking of completing your costume with cat contacts, there are
some safety issues you should keep in mind. Consumers and make-up artists need to be cautious of lenses found in
retail outlets or on the Internet. Often the retailers aren’t licensed
to carry the special effects lenses and the contacts may not be
manufactured to the correct standards. According to ophthalmologist Dr.
Jonathan Gording, special effects lenses often have two layers: the
inner white layer is basically a salt, he says, and a dye is applied to
the outer layer for the desired effect. These hand-made lenses are
fragile and need to be inspected for nicks, edge defects or other
deformities. Also, scleral contact lenses (ScCLs), often used for
special effects, increase the risk of corneal erosions under the eyelid
due to their heavier nature, especially if the lenses are poor quality
or are poorly fitted. Any contact lens wearers and their
ophthalmologists need to watch for conjunctivitis and fungal corneal
infections.

The task of applying Ron Perlman’s distinctive Hellboy make-up fell to
Spectral Motion chief Mike Elizalde, who was already overseeing more
than a dozen major characters that his company had created for the
film. “[Director] Guillermo del Toro came to me one day and said,
‘Listen, Ron has asked that you do his make-up.’ I was a little
reluctant at first, because there was already a huge workload for which
I was responsible, so devoting all the time and energy it required to
put Ron in the make-up took me away from that task a little bit, but as
it turned out, the support team I had there was phenomenal, so I was
able to get Ron in the make-up every day and still have time to look
over the other stuff that was going on, so it all worked out pretty
well.”

For writer/director Guillermo del Toro, one of the priorities in creating the world of Hellboy 2 was to populate it with creatures unlike anything seen before in other
genre films. Nowhere is that principle more evident than the
briefly-glimpsed character of the Chamberlain, created by Spectral
Motion surrealist artist/designer Chet Zar. “Guillermo originally gave
us some of the parameters,” Zar said, “like he wanted a mechanical mask
that was glued around the actor’s own mouth so the actor could use his
mouth, but he wanted the rest to be mechanical, everything except the
mouth basically, so I just went from there."

Aside from the eponymous hero, the most iconic character in Hellboy 2is the amphibious Abe Sapien (Doug Jones). While Abe was an instant hit
in the first film, Spectral Motion chief Mike Elizalde asked veteran
suit creator José Fernandez to revamp the make-up, making it less
labor-intensive. “I wasn’t making it look different,” Fernandez
explained, “just easier for everybody involved. Before, Doug didn’t
have any rubber on his legs; it was only make-up, which is also why it
took so long, because they had to paint his legs every day. This time,
I made legs for him that didn’t look like rubber, so that was a huge
challenge, but I think the movement and the look were very successful.”

He was 65 and had already fought a long battle with lung cancer, the Iran State

Moayyeri

Mas'ud Kimiai and other well-known Iranian directors.
According
