New York’s Museum of the Moving Image has opened “Aliens, Gadgets, and Guns: Designing the World of Men in Black 3,” a display of more than 25 aliens, creatures and other objects from the film. Oscar winner and IMATS Los Angeles 2012 keynote speaker Rick Baker designed the characters and will make a personal appearance at the museum during a preview screening of Men in Black III, held 8 p.m. May 24.
“The museum is thrilled to exhibit these exquisitely crafted objects that help define the extraordinary world of Men in Black. We’re particularly honored to exhibit the spectacular work of Rick Baker,” said Barbara Miller, the Museum’s Collection Curator in a statement. “These masks, creatures, and props perfectly complement our core exhibition Behind the Screen, where we explore all aspects of how moving images are made, marketed and shown.”
“Aliens, Gadgets, and Guns” also features exclusive behind-the-scenes footage of Baker at work; the display items and footage are on loan from Columbia Pictures. The showcase runs through Sept. 23 at the museum, which is located at 36-01 35 Avenue, Astoria, N.Y. 11106. For more details on the display and the preview screening, visit movingimage.us.
Baker will be a keynote speaker at IMATS Los Angeles, held June 23-24, 2012. For details on the show, including a schedule and ticket prices, visit imats.net.
