Originally announced in November 2008:
The International Make-Up Artist Trade Show—better known as IMATS—is heading toward the land of kangaroos and digeridoos. Michael Key, the publisher of Make-Up Artist magazine, has announced that the company will produce an IMATS in Australia in 2009. The show, open to the public, will be held Sept. 12-13 at the Sydney Convention Center, located on Darling Harbour.
Australian make-up artist Rae Morris, author of Makeup: The Ultimate Guide, has been confirmed as a keynote speaker; additional speakers and educators will be announced at a later date. The show will also feature more than 50 international vendors and two classrooms (one will seat 70 people, the other about 300) to be used for continuous seminars throughout the weekend. A gothic theme has been chosen for the IMATS student competition’s beauty component, while the character competition has an X-Men mutants theme. (continued below)
Key said there were several compelling reasons to bring IMATS to Australia.
“That area of the world has really grown in importance in film and fashion,” he said, citing such locally produced films as The Lord of the Rings trilogy. “We see it as a growing community. It also adds to the international stature of our publication and our shows, which are now on three continents.”
