On July 18, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the newly elected 2016-17 Board of Governors. After a one-year hiatus, Leonard Engelman has been re-elected to the Makeup Artists and Hairstylists Branch. He replaces Bill Corso, whose three-year term ended. Engelman served the maximum of three consecutive terms from 2006-2015.
Engelman joins current governors Kathryn Blondell, elected in 2013, and Lois Burwell, elected in 2015. To be nominated, members had to have a minimum of seven years’ experience in theatrical films; they needed to have held a supervisory role in at least five of those films. The branch governors attend committee meetings and vote on films in contention for the Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar, among other duties.
