Make-up artists and models from 10 countries and more than a dozen states converged on Atlanta’s Georgia Freight building Oct. 2-4 for Living Art America: The North American Bodypainting Championship.
According to organizers, roughly 450 people per night attended the festival, which included the Oct. 2 Fluoro Show, a 3-D ultraviolet body-painting event starring a team of international artists—led by Wolf Reichterer—painting dancers from Atlanta Ballet, who then performed under black light. A UV burlesque show and a body-painted parkour team were also featured at the festival, which is sanctioned by the World Bodypainting Association.
The festival’s education component, the Living Art Academy, featured a weekend of classes by instructors including Trina Merry, Yolanda Bartram and others.
In the Emerging Artist competition, the top three winners were Breanna Cooke of Dallas in first; Rio Sirah of Atlanta in second and Ren Allen of Jonesborough, Tenn. in third. In the Professional Artist competition, Hyun Yong Jin of South Korea took first place, followed by Cheryl Ann Lipstreu of Belews Creek, N.C. in second and Johannes Stötter of Tyrol, Italy in third. Winners received trophies and cash prizes.
