On Jan. 15 the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 87th Academy Awards nominations. Below are the nominees for the Achievement in Makeup and Hairstyling Oscar.
Foxcatcher: Bill Corso and Dennis Liddiard
This is make-up department head Bill Corso’s third nomination; he previously won an Oscar for Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2005). This is the first Oscar nomination for key make-up artist Dennis Liddiard. He previously worked on 22 Jump Street, Captain America: The Winter Solder and Killing Them Softly; he has also been the personal make-up artist for actor Kurt Russell. The Grand Budapest Hotel: Frances Hannon and Mark Coulier
This is the first Oscar nomination for make-up, hair and prosthetics designer Frances Hannon; she previously won two BAFTA awards. Her list of credits includes Captain Phillips, World War Z, X-Men: First Class and The King’s Speech. Prosthetics make-up designer Mark Coulier previous won an Oscar for his work on The Iron Lady (2012). He previously worked on In the Heart of the Sea, Rush, Merlin and the Harry Potter series. Guardians of the Galaxy: Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou and David White
This is the first Oscar nomination for make-up and hair designer Elizabeth Yianni-Georgiou; she previously worked on Thor: The Dark World, Made in Dagenham and An Education. This is also the first Oscar nomination for special make-up effects designer David White. His list of credits includes Maleficent, Captain America: The First Avenger, Quantum of Solace and La Vie en Rose. For more on the film, see Issue 110.
A pre-Academy Awards celebration of the nominations for make-up and hairstyling will be held Feb. 21 from 3 to 5 p.m. PST at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills, Calif. Beginning Feb. 6 at 10 a.m., you may reserve your free ticket to Oscar Week: Makeup and Hairstyling Symposium by visiting Oscars.org/events (limit two tickets per person) or pick up tickets at the box office directly before the program. Limited standby tickets will be available the day of the event.
