Founders of the popular YouTube channel Pixiwoo and co-designers of Real Techniques beauty brand, Samantha and Nicola Chapman, were recognized for their extraordinary work in the make-up industry at the Glamour Women of the Year Awards 2017. The pair took home the award for YouTubers of the Year at the annual awards ceremony, which was held at the Berkeley Square Gardens in London on June 6.
The prestigious awards are hosted each year by Glamour magazine and are focused on honoring inspirational women from a wide variety of industries. The Chapman sisters are only the second winners of the YouTubers of the Year honor—established in 2016.
“It’s a real honor to be recognized by Glamour alongside so many other inspiring women,” said Sam. “YouTube has really come a long way since we started nine years ago, and we are just so excited to be able to use this platform along with Real Techniques to continue to engage with and inspire our tremendous community of beauty lovers.”
Growing up, the Chapman sisters were inspired by their aunt who was a successful make-up artist, and who worked with the likes of David Bowie and Princess Diana. Their aunt made make-up artistry look glamorous, and eventually both the girls found their unique paths into the business.
In 2008, Sam uploaded her first video to YouTube (rarely used back then for beauty videos) and later Nic joined, creating a dynamic collaboration. Just a few years later Pixiwoo had reached 30,000 plus subscribers and was showing no signs of slowing down.
In 2010, the sisters began to develop Real Techniques—a make-up brush line—which was launched the following year. Since, the brand has since taken off, not only in the U.K. and the U.S. but across the globe. Their brand has exhibited at IMATS, where the sisters have also educated.
Today, the sisters’ videos regularly get nearly a million views each, and their overall reach is more than 7 million beauty lovers worldwide.
“By collaborating with Sam and Nic at the beginning of this beauty revolution, Real Techniques established credibility and a strong foundation among beauty lovers,” said Eva Oreskovich, vice president of global marketing for Paris Presents Incorporated, the owner of the brand Real Techniques. “We’re pleased to continue to leverage Sam and Nic’s passion and authenticity to be the ‘wing women’ of the beauty obsessed, and couldn’t be happier that Sam and Nic were recognized with this honor.”
