The recent Pro-Card event in Chicago was exclusive, inspirational and informative. Make-Up Artist magazine teamed up with Kryolan to sponsor the event, which was held at Kyrolan City Chicago on Thursday, July 29. The event presented an opportunity for Make-Up Artist magazine’s Pro-Card holders to mingle and get advice from industry leaders.
Kicking off the night was a make-up demonstration by Craig Lindberg—an award-winning make-up artist and teacher at Last Looks Makeup Academy. With the help of Michael Burnett (a make-up artist for over 25 years), Lindberg showed how to do a lightning-fast character make-up. The result was a
thug version of Burnett, sporting a fat nose and thick mustache.
The second half of the evening began as a discussion about how to expand your business, with Bri Winters and Alex LaMarsh (brand relationships professional and make-up/hair artist and columnist, respectively). However, it soon turned into an open forum, with Lindberg jumping in. The three edified their attentive and interactive audience on how to make social media work for you. They covered everything from how to use hashtags to scheduling posts. The surprising informative social media twist seemed to be more than OK with the make-up artists in the audience, who rapidly jotted down notes.
A fun addition to the night was the creative and delectable sweets made by Dina Cimarusti (a baker turned make-up artist and Season 7 champion of Face Off). There was a variety of these make-up themed treats: lipsticks and lips and eyelash cupcakes. The colorful desserts were a big hit and encouraged attendees to be a little playful with their food. Kryolan provided the bubbly for attendees to wash the sweets down with.
The big take-away from the event was the overarching advice to “find your voice and find what makes you unique” and to capitalize on that. The other great take-away was the Kryolan goodie bags!
Thanks to all that attended! And thank you to the talented Lindberg, Burnett, Winters and LeMarsh for all their make-up and business wisdom—and for sharing it with the rest of us.
