Smooth-On, Inc., a leading make-up effects materials manufacturer, has opened a new production facility more than quadruple the size of their previous location, moving from an 80,000 square feet building in Easton, Pa. to a 370,000 square feet building in Macungie, Pa. The new location includes a streamlined production area, warehouse, lab, training and office areas. Also included is a themed retail space to highlight their products used in the Star Wars series, The Hobbit series, Iron Man, The Walking Dead and more.

The company also built classroom areas dedicated to training people how to apply the materials. The “seminar room” is over 18,000 square feet and is the largest space in the world dedicated to materials training. Smooth-On, Inc. holds a monthly two-day seminar where attendees learn the basics of mold making and casting.

Smooth-On Vice President Clay Western said in a press release “when we built our Easton factory in 1997, we projected that it would last for at least 20 years before we would need additional space.  Due to double-digit growth year after year, we found ourselves in need of additional production space 10 years later.  After two additions, we could not physically add any more space and decided to move to a space that could accommodate our anticipated long-term growth requirements.  We will continue operating three production shifts at the new facility that run 24 hours a day, six days a week to meet demand for our products”.
