“Half memoir, half coffee table book, all awesomeness!” That’s how Steve Johnson describes Rubberhead: Sex, Drugs and Special FX, a planned five-volume series of books detailing the artist’s colorful career, which spans nearly four decades.
The first volume is more than 250 pages in full color and will feature never-before-seen photos of both released and unreleased projects, including An American Werewolf in London, Dr. Octopus of Spider-Man 2, the giant spider in Arachnid and more.
Johnson’s friend and colleague Sandy Collora launched a Kickstarter to help fund publishing. The fundraising target is $60,000 by Aug. 31; at press time, more than $39,000 has been raised.
Johnson and Collora worked together on the film The Abyss. Collora has launched eight other crowdfunding campaigns, including those for his acclaimed The Art of Creature and Character Design books.
