The nominees for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards® have been announced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Creators of looks for an Italian prime minister, aliens, and the queen of England all vie for the Oscar®.
Artist Roxanna Floyd, whose beauty, fashion, film and TV work was
described by one colleague as "lean and elegant," died unexpectedly
from as-yet undetermined causes on Jan. 28, 2010 in New York. She was
49 years old.
The 1963 murder mystery The List of Adrian Messenger is available for the first time on DVD at Amazon.com. With make-up by Bud Westmore and John Chambers,
the movie keeps the viewers guessing about the identity of a murderer
and asks the audience, "Can you guess who's behind the disguise?"

The fourth annual Oscar®-Nominated Makeup Artist and Hairstylist Symposium will be held 2:30 p.m. March 6 at California’s Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
This event celebrates the films—and the make-up artists and
hairstylists who worked on them—nominated for an Achievement in Makeup
Oscar® for 2009.

New site helps make-up artists market themselves
At first, make-up effects artist and Famehog cofounder Jason Hamer
pictured his new Web site as "YouTube meets IMDB meets Facebook," he
said. But this fall, after a year of consulting with make-up artists and
other movie production people about the site while it was still in
beta, Hamer and co-founder/designer Scott Mallone emerged with
something slightly different: a database of visual resumes.
